Land of the Giants!

Land of the Giants   Sept. 1 – 5, 2021   Our campsite at Redwood Meadows RV Resort was just a mile down “the 199” from the entrance to Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park!    We opted to stay there rather than the state park due to length restrictions.    25’ is the longest camper that fits into the state park and our 5 th  wheel is 31’.    In addition, there are no services (electric, water…) and I’ve gown very accustomed to my morning cup of coffee!    Being a mile away is close enough for me, especially if it means I can use my own shower and make a pot of java!    Bill and Judy (our neighbors) were a bonus for staying there.    Bill is a native Californian and seems to know all of the great spots to visit.    On top of his tour guide recommendations, he is very creative and artistic.    He creates amazing redwood sculptures using a small chainsaw!    Bill’s soft spoken, gentle voi...

Smoke on the Water! (fortunately, no fire in sight!)

Smoke on the Water   Crater Lake National Park August 29 – Sept. 1, 2021   We have heard so many wonderful comments about Crater Lake National Park and have been eagerly anticipating our time here.  We have been keeping our eyes on the wildfire situation, noting that some days the air quality at the park is much better than other days and keeping our fingers crossed for good quality air the days of our visit.  We did experience a lot of smoke, along with poor air quality some of the time, but we were thrilled to have a blue sky and mostly clear air for a good portion of one day!  We couldn’t resist taking a couple of photos from the same location with heavy smoke and with only light smoke.   We were able to camp right in the national park, having made reservations a year ago!  We have one of their few full hook-up sites, giving us 30 amps, water and sewer.  Mazama Campground is a beautiful campground, located 7 miles from ...

August 19 – 29, 2021   For this stay, we based ourselves out of South Jetty RV Campground.    It’s a lovely, very wooded campground.    Outside our door is a forest of spruce trees.    The view of the long, dark brown trunks along with the rays of filtered sunlight making their way through the pine canopy gives such a layback vibe to our “home”.   A few miles north of Florence, right along Hwy.101, is the Hobbit Trail.    Just the name of it makes me smile!    It brought back fond memories of reading  The Hobbit  in Gene Conrad’s Modern Novel class when I was in high school.    Well, the trail did not disappoint!    It was one mile (out and back) along a fairy like trail that takes you to the Pacific Ocean.    The trail was lined with dense vegetation that gave it the feel of walking through a tunnel.    Every once in a while, you would come to a “hobbit hole” (which, in all lik...
