From Desert to Hill Country!

April 3 – 10, 2022  Home Sweet Home! State Parks have always been a favorite of ours to camp in, and Seminole Canyon State Park was no exception!  This campsite proved to be a first for us in many ways and a last in other ways!  This was our first time to camp in a Texas state park and I’m certainly hoping it will not be our last!  This was not our first campground with pictographs; however, it was the first one to offer guided hikes to them.  Our guide, Miss Betty, began our tour with an explanation of how Seminole Indians settled here and their historic, heroic role in settling Texas.  These descendants of Florida Seminoles were forced to relocate to Oklahoma, where they were not welcomed by tribes on the reservation.  Subsequently, they moved to what is now called Seminole Canyon.   We learned thousands of years before the Seminoles were here, the Pecos Indians called this area home.  It’s such a harsh environment, it’s amazing they w...

A Rio Grande Time!

March 27 – April 4, 2022 Six months ago, we made reservations to camp at Rio Grande Village RV Campground, located 200 yards from our border with Mexico, in the southeast corner of Big Bend National Park!  After setting up camp, I was completely exhausted and a little confused as to where all my energy had evaporated to.  When I realized it was 102ยบ outside, it made a little more sense!  Good grief!  It’s March!! Big Bend, known as “Texas’ Gift to the United States”, offers more than 200 miles of hiking trails, making it difficult to choose which trails we wanted to tackle!  One trail was an obvious choice as it was located within walking distance of our campsite.  Rio Grande Village Nature Trail is a short trail, which begins as a boardwalk to a pond, perfect for viewing birds, bugs and critters!  The trail then climbs a hillside and offers views of the Rio Grande River and the surrounding Chisos Mountains.  The sunset view from the top of the hi...
