Bagpipers and Sandpipers

March 2 – 13, 2023 Beaches, beaches and more beaches!  It’s what you do when you are camped only a mile from the Emerald Coast!  The white sand beaches combined with the stunning emerald waters stretching from Panama City Beach to Pensacola are quite the delight! Sandpipers skittering across the sand in search of their dinner! At least they are a delight until you see a purple flag flying at the beach entrance.  The purple flag signals a warning of stinging marine life.  During our stay in Panama City Beach, we had at least three days of purple flags flying!  The first day we saw them, I thought it was probably an exaggerated warning.  It wasn’t until I began strolling down the shoreline that I decided I definitely would not be getting into the water!  Portuguese Man o’ War were covering the white sand beach!  So many that it was impossible to count them!  The larger ones we saw were about the size of a large sweet potato and were actually be...

Florida's Big Bend

Image
Feb. 23 - March 2, 2023 Perry, FL is located in the Big Bend area of Florida where the peninsula transitions into the panhandle.  The first item on the agenda after arriving in Perry was to find a post office.  Sherry, a lifelong friend of mine, has a longarm quilting machine and had offered her talent to sew together the top, batting, and backing of the twins’ quilts.  I couldn’t resist her kind offer.  As I dropped the package off at the post office, I kept thinking what a climate shock the quilts were about to go through.  Sherry lives in Minnesota! Our stay in Perry was a quiet, laidback visit.  We camped at the KOA in town, which offered a nice pool we took advantage of a couple of times.  It was a good place to hang out and finalize our camping locations and make reservations for the remainder of 2023.  Our reward when done was a dip in the pool and then some time in the hot tub! Forest Capital Museum State Park was less than a mile down th...

Silver and Gold

February 9 – 23, 2023 Growing up, I belonged to the local Girl Scout Troop in Eldridge, Iowa.  One of the songs we sang at Bridging Ceremonies was:  “♬Make new friends but keep the old. 🎶  One is silver and the other’s gold. ♪”   What a great sliver of wisdom to share with children.  It’s really something to carry with you for a lifetime.  During our stay in Wildwood, FL, we were fortunate to be able to spend time enjoying both our silver and our gold friends! We stayed at Wildwood RV Campground primarily because it was along the route we were wanting to go and it was a Thousand Trails campground, of which we are members.  We really didn’t know anything about the area, but we were confident we wouldn’t have any trouble filling our time.  After all, it’s February and we were in Florida!  Although the campground really wasn’t much to look at, they offered lots of activities for all ages.  I know my personal favorites included the Ch...
