Our goal is to get to Sioux Falls to establish domicile; however, as we are not in a huge hurry to get there, we thought we might as well explore a bit of Wyoming along the way! With that in mind, we decided to spend the next few nights in Casper. We stayed at
Rivers Edge RV Park, which is located right on the banks of the North Platte River.
We had two full days to get familiar with the Casper area, so we decided to spend one day in town and the other on Casper Mountain.
On our first day, we walked the self-guided historic tour around downtown. We picked up a Huckleberry shake from a cafe that occupies part of the former
Rialto Theatre building and enjoyed it with the sack lunch we had packed.
We had Frankie with us and she had a ton of energy. So after lunch, we headed out to hike a stretch of the urban trails. This was a lovely trail that goes for miles and miles right along the river. You would hardly know you were still in town! It was a pretty warm day, so after a couple of miles we decided to turn around and escape from the heat for a bit.
Before dinner, we checked out a couple of the local breweries. Skull Tree was our favorite of the two we went to. It is owned by a delightful young couple. This brewery is one to check out if you are ever in the area!

Our day on Casper Mountain was full of surprises! We parked at Rotary Park (a 15-minute drive from the campground) and took a short walk to Garden Creek Falls. After taking in the beautiful waterfall, we hiked the Bridle Trail. Along this five-mile trail, we saw scenic overlooks of Casper, mountain streams, wildflowers, and a cabin whose yard was decorated with a fairy garden and had a mail box filled with dog treats for trail dogs! At the peak of the trail was "Split Rock". Bridle Trail was a winner of a trail for us. It was just enough elevation change and length to give us a bit of a workout while leaving us with enough energy to get ready to prepare for our departure for The Badlands in the morning. If you are ever passing anywhere close to Casper, I'd recommend stopping for a couple of days! You won't regret it!
Up next: The Badlands!
