March 25 - May 30, 2020
Last October, Dick and I decided we were going to finally act on our dream of living full time in our RV and traveling to see this great nation. We plan to spend a few years traveling before eventually settling down once again into a more conventional lifestyle. We spent the winter sorting through all of our "stuff" and finding new homes for most of it!
Our adventure began March 27, 2020 as we closed on our "Sticks and Bricks" home and moved into our 31' fifth wheel. We intended to stay a week at Dakotah Meadows RV Park at Mystic Lake Casino (the only campground open in Minnesota that we could find!). Ironically, March 27th was also the day the Minnesota Governor issued a "stay at home" order due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What we thought would be a one-week stay turned into two months! During our stay here, we took advantage of the time by organizing the RV for living full time in it. Amazon shopping became very familiar to me as I ordered various organizers and storage items!
Memorable moments during this time include:
- 8.5 inches of snow on Easter Sunday.
- Learning how to thaw a frozen water pipe!
- Watching trees change from winter brown to full green leaves.
- The smell of crabapple blossoms on walks around Prior Lake.
- COVID-19 self-isolation and learning to be at least 6' away from everyone!
- Sewing face masks to help prevent the spread (a huge thank you to Sherry Opitz for sending me fabric!).
- Enjoying hiking the golf cart paths of local golf courses (closed due to COVID-19).
- DoorDash meal deliveries (thanks to Maggie and Brandon!).
- Zoom meeting visits with the family!
- Discovering nearby regional parks for hiking and biking!
- Getting together with friends (while social distancing!) one more time before heading out!
- Watching the excitement of the community as Mystic Lake Casino was able to reopen with safety restrictions in place.
- Nana and Papa dates with Emma and Eli!
- Window visits with Emma, Eli, Lauren and Adam!
- Giving Dick a COVID haircut (which turned into a full buzz).
- Supporting Lauren and Adam while they replace their backyard fence.
- Scanning all of our photos from 38 years of marriage!
- The tragic murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and the ensuing riots.
- Being able to have two of our grandchildren spend the night with us on our last night in Prior Lake!

Prior Lake is a lovely community!
As some of the restrictions are beginning to be lifted, we are heading to Iowa. It's been a safe and comfortable stay in Prior Lake; however, we are looking forward to venturing out and exploring new areas! I'll be posting from each of our campgrounds. Feel free to follow us as we see the beauty God has given us and meet new people along the way!
Up next: Ankeny, Iowa! |
