Utah 2020 -- Petersons Unite!

June 7 - 21, 2020

We spent the last two weeks cheating a bit on this full time RV living as we were in Utah and stayed with our son, Brandon and his family.  We were able to park our RV on the street in front of their home, which made it nice if we needed anything from it.  For example, when I was making Eva's cake for her 8th birthday and we ran out of powdered sugar for the icing, all I had to do was "make a quick trip home for it"!  

Back yard activities were a hit with all of us!  We got to play on the new playground Brandon built for the kids (no, my hips didn't fit down the slide!), pick tart cherries, play Goodminton (a nice twist on Badminton), croquet,  Kubb (a Swedish yard game)...  Indoors, we played board games.  Sad that I can no longer beat Josh (age 10) in chess!  He crushed me every time!

Brandon's family is part of a neighborhood pool and, although playtime is not allowed (dang COVID!), we could sign up for lap swims.  It was a delightful way to cool off on some of the warmer days while we were there.

I pulled out my sewing machine a couple of times and gave the kids a little fun behind my favorite toy! They made  pretty cool placemats and bookmarks!  We found a couple of neighborhood hikes that gave us a nice view of the city, including a fun hike to the Block U!  Occasionally, Brandon and Dick would pull out their guitars and treat us to a little oldies music.

Despite COVID-19 being on an increase in Salt Lake City and the need for continued self-isolating, we had a ton of fun and found so many things to do.  Dick was able to give Brandon a haircut and I must say he did a MUCH better job than the haircut I gave Dick!  One of these days we will maybe be able to go back to a salon for a haircut.  My hair has gotten ridiculously long!

Eva is getting close to being able to ride her bicycle.  It was exciting to witness the progress she is making; however, chasing her around and helping ensure she wouldn't fall wore me out!  Haha!

Leaving Salt Lake City was difficult, but Josh and Eva gave their best effort at making it impossible.  
They barricaded and locked the front door and chased our RV for blocks and blocks yelling "Please don't leave!"  It's nice to be loved.  God has blessed us richly!

    Those grandkids really love you! We find Kubb harder to play than it looks--or have you mastered it?

 Reykjavik! June 6-8, 2025 The Adventure Begins! Our first day of this grand adventure was a crazy combo of never-ending amazement  and never-ending exhaustion! Walking in the Footsteps of the Saints, Part 3: Mont Saint-Michel!

November 5, 2025 This was an amazingly fun and interesting day, filled with many unique and new experiences for me!  Certainly NOT a new experience was hearing of St. Michael.  I pray for intercession from him regularly to “protect me from the wickedness and snares of the devil” who is certainly alive and well in today’s world. What was new was learning of St. Michael’s appearance to the Bishop of Avranches in 708 AD.  St. Michael appeared in a series of three dreams to him.  In these dreams, St. Michael ordered the bishop to build a sanctuary at a specific location.  The bishop believed it was a demon telling him this and promptly ignored the first two of these dreams.  It made absolutely no sense to him as the location he was to build on was the rocky islet of Mont Tombe.  This mount is located where two rivers converge and enter a bay that leads to the English Channel.  On St. Michael’s third and final visit (again in a dream), St. Michael touc...

On to the Ring Road!

Day 4 Having seen the sights along the Golden Circle, it was now time to begin our 6-day trip around the Ring Road!  This island is filled with active volcanoes and some of the largest glaciers in the world, appropriately giving it the title, “Land of Fire and Ice”.  Containing such imposing features, the interior of the island is mostly inaccessible.  The Golden Circle is as close to the interior as we got.  Highway 1 (the Ring Road) follows the perimeter of the island taking you to some really incredible sights along the way.  The southwestern coast of “The 1” was our agenda of the day, as we will be driving the Ring Road counter clockwise.   Seljalandsfoss was our first stop.  Donned with raincoats and rain pants, we boldly began our approach to this stunning waterfall.  The water descends from the glacier Eyjafjallajökull, spills over a cliff and into a pool below.  There is a cave like path behind the waterfall where you have an ama...
